Opera Mediaworks Opens Regional Office in Singapore

Opera’s business line which focuses on mobile ads, Opera Mediaworks, announced the opening of its APAC regional office in Singapore. The office will be responsible for managing developing markets in the region, including in Indonesia which has one of the most Opera users in the world. Opera Mediaworks appointed ex-Vserv’s Head for Southeast Asia, Vikas Gulati, as its Managing Director Asia.

Gulati’s focus would be establishing Opera Mediaworks market in India, Indonesia, South Korea, Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. As Mumbrella reported, Gulati commented, “We see a huge mobile video adoption potential in Asia Pacific. We also see another trend in APAC, which is the adoption of better viewer targeting, and giant retailers and e-commerce providers like Flipkart and Snapdeal strengthens their e-commerce focus because the consumers are more convenient in using their mobile devices.”

Based on the latest data by Opera Mediaworks, Indonesian internet users remain powerful in accessing social media. Ad impression for websites and social apps reach 61%, followed by websites and apps which include music, video, and media services with 17%. As comparison, the ratio in India is more balance, with 31% ad impression for websites and social apps and 24% for websites and apps which include music, video, and media services.

At global scale, Asia experienced a positive growth trend with 26% ad impression during 2014. Once-dominating North America, with nearly 75% in 2011, now gets less than 50% for global ad impression.
