Manado and Jakarta wins Foursquare's Global City Badge competition

Foursquare recently announced the winners of their Global City Badge competition based on the number of Foursquare users around the globe. From 20 winners, Manado is one of the Indonesian city chosen together with Bangkok, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and also Jakarta. Foursquare team had already plan to make a specific badge for Jakarta anyway.

The Global City Badge content follows Foursquare's success with #visitUS contest they held previously for US cities. The global contest was divided to 6 regions where Indonesia was included in Oceania. Manado wins this competition based on the list made by Bastianos where he shared his top 50 interesting venues in Manado.

Now, how can we get the local badge? Based on the previous competition, Foursquare users can unlock the badge after checking in at 5 special spot. So far there's 78 venue listed in Jakarta while Manado has 50 venues.

After winning the location-based competition against their competitors (read: Gowalla) it seems that Foursquare is not wasting their time partying for their victory. Constant innovation pushed consistently by Foursquare to keep their users interested. Check out their blog that announces some new features every now and then. Indonesian startups such as Koprol, Bouncity and Yotomo can definitely learn for Foursquare.

Unfortunately, I noticed that those 3 Indonesian startups is nowhere near Foursquare in terms of innovating, instead almost none of them have significant updates for the past 6 months. Koprol, probably the biggest local location based service in Indonesia last update their blog on November 2011 and their last Twitter update was February 2012. Innovation is never easy.
