InMobi: Indonesia in Top Five Country for App Downloads and Tablet Usage, Interstitial Ads Have Best Conversion Rates

Indian-based mobile ads company InMobi releases an app insight report for 2013, based on 50 million apps installed in iOS and Android platform. Indonesia is listed to top country for app downloads and tablet usage, staggering into top five. This clearly sends message to advertisers that Indonesia with its enormous mobile users is surely a potential market.

In term of app downloads, Indonesia snatches 4.6% of total downloads, ahead the likes of South Korea, Canada or United Kingdom. USA tops the list with 33.8%, with four Asian countries following -- India, Japan, China and Indonesia respectively with each has less than 10% market share. Combined, top 5 countries dominate over 60% of app downloads.

For tablet usage, this tropical country once again positions itself  in top five. USA is continuously a tablet heaven with 15.4% usage, followed by China, Thailand, United Kingdom and Indonesia. 4% of total tablet usage is coming from Indonesia. As for model, Apple's iPad is unsurprisingly leading the pack with 53.9%, followed by Samsung's Galaxy series, Google's Nexus 7 and Amazon's Kindle Fire family.

InMobi in its report encourage advertisers to pay attention to significant tablet usage. Currently having more than 126 million users globally, it's concluded that consumers are more engaged to tablet with 90 minutes timeshare, compared to 58 minutes for smartphone. Tablet users also three times more open to consume ads compared to smartphone. Most activities on tablets include (online) shopping, game playing and communication.

InMobi also suggests that interstitial ads are so far having the best conversion rates. Its conversion rate almost double of other forms, like banner ads, text ads or expandable. Still, banner ads work quite well when implemented in both Android and iOS apps.

Given that InMobi is one of the most important player on mobile ads after Google's Adwords/Admob, this report would justify on what action mobile advertisers should choose to maximize its exposure. We're just hoping the execution for interstitial ads, especially for mobile realm, will follow common business ethics, unlike our recent rants.
